Recently we aquired a Xiegu G90 20 Watt HF Transceiver.
\nThe radio is a great addition to our arsenal.
\nWe decided it’s time to let the old, discontinued Yaesu 857D go.
\nThe biggest issue was that the Yaesu is a 100 watt radio and the Xiegu is a 20 watt radio.
\nThe Xiegu has a built-in tuner that is one of the best I’ve ever used and coupled with the waterfall display, that made the decision easier.<\/p>\n
Once we found that there was a linear amplifier made by Xiegue, that interfaces with the G90, it was a done deal.
\nAfter setting up the XPA125B I found the tuner to be less stellar than the built-in tuner of the G90. While the G90 was somehow able to tune 80 – 10 meters when using my multiband wire dipole, the XPA125B had difficulty with every band and displayed a high reverse power warning when keying up on any frequency. The tuner operation is not intuitive and so far, doesn’t seem to work well at all which in turn causes the amplifier to \u00a0display the warning.
\nI have plans to go with an end-fed antenna so I’ll hold off on sending the amp back for now.<\/p>\n
