Embracing the winter chill, I decided to embark on a radio adventure by breaking out my trusty Yaesu 857D. With the temperature hovering at a brisk 21 degrees Fahrenheit, I transformed my office/sunroom into a makeshift radio station. Armed with a Buddy Stick and the LDG YT-100 auto tuner, I eagerly set up my equipment on my desk. Join me on this journey as I share my experience of delving into the world of amateur radio during the winter season.
The cold weather outside didn’t deter me from pursuing my passion for amateur radio. Instead, I found solace in the warmth of my indoor setup. The Yaesu 857D, known for its versatility and reliability, took center stage in my winter radio escapade.
Equipment Used:
- Yaesu 857D: A compact and powerful transceiver, perfect for portable operations.
- Buddy Stick: A portable antenna that can be easily set up for different frequency bands.
- LDG YT-100 Auto Tuner: A handy device for ensuring optimal antenna tuning.
Winter Wonderland Setup: Positioned in my office/sunroom, I strategically arranged my equipment on the desk. The indoor setting provided a comfortable environment to experiment and fine-tune my radio setup. Despite the chilly weather outside, I was determined to make the most of my indoor radio haven.
As I tuned into the 10-meter band, I encountered the hushed voices of a few fellow radio enthusiasts. While I could only hear snippets of their conversations, the experience fueled my determination to get back out there on the airwaves.
When the warmer weather returns, I plan to set up the Buddistick along with a triband Yo-Yo Vee dipole antenna in my yard, and then the fun with really begin.
