TYT TF-9800 Quad Band

I received the TF-9800 yesterday and was able to quickly program it using Chirp, which was a nice change from the Yaesu programming software. I installed it in less than ten minutes this morning, I just unplugged the Yaesu 2980 and plugged in the TYT. The TYT has a removable face plate which is a great feature I remember from my Yaesu 957-D. While I had the Yaesu 2980 installed for almost a week I was unable to get a single acknowledgement to my calls. No contact though I could hear others clear as day.

My first morning with the TYT I was able to make contact and chat for my entire 1 1/2 hour commute. Not only was I able to make contact on 2 meters, I made contact with a station out of state, 54 miles away. I’m looking forward to getting it running on 10 meter (pray to the propagation Gods) to see what contacts I can make.
