Contact

So I’ve been playing around with the Buddistick and the yoyo Vee -3 band antenna. I’ve been able to hear several 40-meter transmissions using the Buddistick but after several attempts haven’t been able to make contact. I decided to give the yoyo Vee a try.

I’m bound by HOA restrictions, living in a Townhouse condo. And while I am working to change that situation, for now, this is what I have to deal with.

I setup the yoyo in my loft, which is where the Buddistick lives. As it turns out I don’t have enough room to set it up for 40 meters as that would require two 31 foot spans. I setup for 20 meters but quickly found that I had gotten better reception on the Buddistick.

I didn’t waste any time, I took down the yoyo Vee antenna and reassembled the Buddistick. I measured the counterpoise length for 20 meters. I was able to hear several stations. I was even able to get through a pileup of check-ins with the Nuclear Ship Savannah Amateur Radio Club where I spoke with K3SAV during the Museum Ships on the AirR Weekend. The Ship is located in Baltimore, MD.
